| | | New Monty Don stuff Is anyone watching the current two telly programmes (Mastercrafts and My Dream Farm) with Monty? They're brill'. He's such a lovely man isn't he? I'm really glad he's back on the telly.

| | | Re: New Monty Don stuff I watched the first 'Mastercrafts' about wood turning and making chairs from green wood - fascinating! I was quite jealous although I'm sure given a chance to have a go I'd make a complete mess of it, and Himself is a "glue and screw" sort of DIY-er!
Good to see Monty Don seemingly back to full health too. Have to say, I stopped watching 'Gardeners' World' when he took over because I just couldn't stand the way he presented it but thought he did 'Mastercrafts' really well and am looking forward to the next one. Glad I gave it a try!

| | | Re: New Monty Don stuff I agree, its great to see Monty back on screen, and the 2 series are good too.
Dream Farm one makes us laugh sometimes though, as some of the people featured seem to jump in with both feet without fully weighing up whats involved. Like the lady this week with the Alpacas. Got every admiration for her wanting to change lifestyle etc, but she rode rough-shod over all the planning regs, upset the neighbours and then wondered why she was getting hate mail from the locals! She gave the impression she was going to do exactly what she wanted, regardless of the rules and was so surprised when it all started to go pear-shaped. |

| | | Re: New Monty Don stuff Watched the Mastercrafts one last week which was fascinating. It's all right up OH's street and it's so good to see a programme that really interests him for the full time, he has a tendency to flip channels at will! Looking forward to the thatching one this week as we used to live in a thatched cottage, but it had been redone just before we bought it so never got to see the process. |

| | | Re: New Monty Don stuff Sorry Claire, only just read this. My Dream Farm has finished (they are after folk for the next series though, so expect it to be on again), but Mastercrafts is Beeb 2 (I think) on Friday. I read his 'Jewel Garden' book too. Very enjoyable.

| | | Re: New Monty Don stuff the masterclass series is very good and Monty is well placed on these, but the farm ones are a bit silly, anyone can go in and suggest changes. We watched the first few and felt the programme had missed it's purpose by not coming back later to show success or fail of the ideas, shame but maybe if they do make more they will revisit.
Nice to see these sort of progs getting airing though, but it’s about time we had a national apprentice scheme for trad crafts, we pay for dry static museums, I would much rather see my tax going on preserving the skills in the flesh so to speak. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
