| | | The Wild Places of Essex Is the title of the next episode of Natural World on BBC2 at 8pm next Wednesday 10th February. From the BBC web site... "Multi-award-winning writer Robert Macfarlane sets out on a journey to explore the unexpected landscapes and natural history of Essex, revealing that there is far more to the county than the stereotypes of white stilettos and boy racers.
Macfarlane spends a year travelling the county's strange and elemental landscapes of heavy industry, desolate beaches and wild woods. He encounters massive knot flocks over the Thames, peregrine falcons at Tilbury Power Station, water voles within sniffing distance of the municipal dump, deer rutting in earshot of the M25, barn owls, badgers and bluebells in Billericay as well as a large colony of common seals." One for the recorder, I think.

| | | Re: The Wild Places of Essex Will have to have a look at that. I started my birdwatching at Belhus countrypark, the old Hornchuch RAF site before it became a country park down to the ingrebourne valley and berwick ponds, Rainham marshes when part was still an MOD shooting range, the thames at rainham near cold harbour lane rubbish tips and when I could drive , the big reservoirs at hanningfield and abberton, the dengie pennisular and Bradwell Bird observatory.
The memories are flooding back

| | | Re: The Wild Places of Essex Thank you! .... I was not aware that this was upcoming.
I will certainly be watching and playing the "have I been there?" game.
So we have Essex on Wednesday and Simon King on Shetland on Thursday .... I live in one and have visited the other twice .... there are some quite distinct differences .
P.S I assume that the Wednesday programme will be the natural wild places of Essex rather than downtown Basildon on Firday and Saturday nights

So far the only Essex site I've been to is Rainham Marshes so I'm looking for some good places to check out North of the river.

| | | Re: The Wild Places of Essex I'll take you up on that Neil. Although you seem to spend more of your time in Kent these days!
