| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure I really enjoyed it and it was as good as you would expect from SK, those otters were gorgeous. Looking forward to the next one. It's really "back to nature" and great to involve the family.

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure Without doubt this was one of the best 'Nature Programmes' to be on TV for a very long time. SK was excellent, so very knowledgeable and natural in his presentation throughout. For once there was no 'silly bantering and acting' going on as there is in another programme I wont mention. At last the BBC have got it right in my opinion. I can't wait to see Simon and his family's next visit to the Shetlands and its wildlife.

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure the thing i really liked was the footage of the Orca so close inshore and reminded me of seeing one off the Isle of Bute in September 1998, at the time everyone i told dissmised the sighting that me and my girlfriend at the time had made even though we were convinced it could be nothing else. We saw it off the area of St.Blanes bay and from the Iron Age vitrified fort and got very good views. |

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure I have been looking forward to seeing this series ever since being fortunate enough to discuss it briefly with Simon King at the Rutland Water Bird Fair last summer. I also got a copy of his book (highly recommended) signed that day.
I was never going to be disappointed by this series and certainly part 1 lived up to all expectations. Shetland is a wonderful place to visit and has some awesome wildlife and I have thoroughly enjoyed both my visits.
Excellent filming of probably my favourite mammal (Otter) and also my "damn, missed them again, must try again" mammal (Orca).
Simon King's efforts to see Orca certainly appeared easier than Gordon Buchanan's in his film and indeed my efforts.
Roll on Wednesday for part 2 .... and the release of the "Shetland Diaries" book in April.

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure is it only a 3 part series though? I guess that is my only criticism....seeing as he spent around 2 or 3 years up there (i think?) they could show us more than 3 one hour shows? =(

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure Hopefully the BBC and Mr King will go for another series afer this one providing there is the money and he can spare the time and agree its one of the best wildlife docs in the last few years and very inspiring stuff. Hopefully the series will also be put on dvd. |

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure Oh i reckon the DVD is a given.
Its very similar to Gordon Buchanan's 'Eagle Island' when he spent a year on mull which got a dvd release.

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure At first I thought he had done a full 12 continuous months out there but then during the programme I got the impression they had gone in mid summer, left in autumn and then gone back in winter ........ so maybe he didn't spend as much time as it might take to get enough filming for more than three progs - but you're right - I could watch it like a 'soap' sev times a week - just watching their life out there - but no the general public wants to watch actors aping a facsimilie of life - or fasten idiots in a house or send celebs to a sanitised jungle and film them misbehaving instead of seeing someone like this going about a healthy form of daily family life for real in a beautiful but harsh place ..........

| | | Re: Simon King's Shetland Adventure Hi everyone,
Wasn't the first episode great? Stunning shots of the hunting orcas, the otters, the terns - Shetland at its very best. You can see why Simon loves it so much!
And great music too - I recognised the fiddle music - it was a Shetland group I like called Fiddler's Bid*. Great to see and hear Shetland - I can't wait for the next episode this week.

* Fiddler's Bid are currently fighting it out for an online award for instrumental album of the year for their latest album, "All dressed in yellow" - it's free and quick to vote, there's only 2 days left to vote, so let's show them how much we love Simon's choice of music and Shetland!
