| | | Re: BBc2 - How Earth Made Us I have recorded it as I had watched 'Send in the Dogs' the previous hour and knew there was no way I would be able to appreciate it fully after that! All I have to do now is find time to watch it. Have to say that I normally like Ian Stewart, so it will be interesting to compare with other programmes. |

There have been several excellent BBC/Ian Stewart series of late including
Earth: Power of the Planet
Journey to the centre of the earth
Climate Wars
and possibly some others i have forgotten...
Earth:Power of the planet is certainly available on DVD and well worth it (i have it).
I imagine a search of Ian Stewart on amazon will pull up any others?

| | | Re: BBc2 - How Earth Made Us I must say I thought it was a very good programme. I was married to a geography teacher for 20 odd (!) years, and I can tell you it presented a good grounding of the basics in a clear, concise and *interesting* way. It may be old hat to some here, but IMO it could lead to a greater understanding of the world around us by pupils who had previously not taken an interest in *why* things are there....(Yeah, so they all know about exciting things such as volcanoes and earthquakes, but do they know why they happen? Or why the mountains are where they are?)
I look forward to the next episode
D.
P.S. The only gripe I have is the presenter's voice....is he the bloke that does the Co-op ads? " Good with food"??! )

I totally agree with Dutchess's comments as well regarding the potential educational factor for those wanting introduction to the basics of geology etc (I also learned a few things too as I said!). I think my main bugbears was, as Dutchess also pointed out, the presenter's voice (btw love Scottish accents that wasn't the reason!) and the mediocre graphics and music. |

He was also in the Rough Science series which I loved and could watch again.

| | | Re: BBc2 - How Earth Made Us The 'Water' episode was good though. Just finished watching it on iplayer. The 'maps' of the natural reservoirs of ground water were impressive.
