| | | Nature Shock Did anyone catch this tourists on a whale watching trip were shocked to see a Great white Shark being attacked killed and eaten by whales..
They put the Shark on its back this relaxed the shark and put it into sleep then the whale attacked it.
The scientist also made a imitation "death in a bottle smell" that when the sharks got a whiff vacated the area pretty quick..
Next weeks is about Cannibal Hippos its on Tuesday 20th at 8pm on channel 5.
Not for the faint hearted.. |

didnt see the programme--what is it called and what,i hate to imagine,is its purpose? it sounds like exploitation to me--''what can we as scientists do to these animals etc to make a programme that'll get high ratings....''
however if its just showing another side to 'animal' behaviour-without human intervention or manipulation-then fair enough.
wish you hadnt brought it to my attention 'cos now i'll have to watch!

| | | Re: Nature Shock The programme is called "nature shock" its where discoveries have been made of shocking animal behaviour never before witnessed by humans.
The scientists wanted to know why the sharks were not found in an area where they previously were found and discovered where sharks smelt another sharks blood they would leave the area.
They now use the death smell to deter sharks where swimmers and surfers are so making beaches a no no
area for sharks..
I find this stuff fascinating as with all wildlife there is a sinister side to it, like it or not..its not all cuddly bunnies..
ps I have no idea on the ratings..
Like I said not for the faint hearted... |

| | | Re: Nature Shock I saw the programme Kayleigh, and enjoyed it very much.
Talking of bunnies ( ) they too can be put into that trance like state by being laid on their backs, just like the sharks! I squealed and pointed at the tv when it showed that bit "Look! They go just like rabbits!!!" I exclaimed... We've been using that trick for yonks!

| | | Re: Nature Shock If you lay a sheep on it's side and prop it's shoulder up very slightly, it too remains still and will stay there for quite some time. This is one of the tricks you learn when shearing sheep, your foot under it's shoulder and you do a shearing stroke right down it's side, until you have done the whole side. Very odd. I shall try it on the missus if she will let me!
