| | | Autumnwatch on at a new time It's going to be every Friday at 9pm for 8 weeks, with virtually no live content.
The reasoning behind the 8 week run is to get in more of the changes to the season, which is obviously good.
But it's so sad that they've moved the programme to 9pm, when so many young viewers will be in bed. They're going to repeat it on Saturday afternoons, but it's not the same. Miost families are out and about at this time, not sitting in front of the TV. I don't think children will watch it in anything like the numbers they usually do, and that's terrible.
We need to bring youngsters in! It's no good just preaching to the (adult) converted. |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time I noticed that as well, the weekly format sounds quite good. I find that it's easy to miss one of a run of daily programmes because on at least one day a week it is likely to conflict with either another regular series I'm watching or a regular weekly event.
As the day after the programme isn't a school day, hopefully the later time slot shouldn't preclude too many kids from seeing it.
I always preferred my son to go to bed a bit later than "normal", as that usually meant he woke up at a far more civilized hour.
I never understood parents who moaned about their kids getting up at 6.00am when they insisted the kids went to bed at about 7.00pm. |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Sorry, 10pm's just too late for my 8 year old. And 8pm was a lovely slot, where we all snuggled up together on the sofa. They learned so much from this programme.
I can't see us watching the repeat because we're always busy on a Saturday afternoon (and watching a repeat just isn't the same as watching the live show as it goes out). It feels to me as though the BBC's just decided to cut out young viewers, and I think that's so wrong. |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time I had heard that it was to be shown one programme a week for 8 weeks, but had assumed it would be in the same format. 9pm sounds a little late to me and Friday night isn't the best. I don't think having less "live" bits will make much difference, a lot is already pre-recorded with "this happened just a few moments before you joined us".
It will still be worth watching. Lets hope they don't do the same to Spring watch

Seriously, if we don't get our kids involved (and there's a myriad of ways to do it) why will they care about our wildlife when we're all dead and gone? They're the people who'll be making planning and policy decisions in 20 or 30 years time.
Anyone who wants some serious inspiration on this could do worse than read 'Last Child in The Woods' by Richard Louv. I'd also recommend 'Nature's Playground' by Fiona Danks and Jo Schofield. |
