| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time It's not the same, watching a recording. We used to run excitedly to sit down together when we heard the theme tune, and snuggle up on the sofa together. It was a real family event. And next day the kids and their friends would be talking about it, there was a real buzz.
There won't be that this year, because even if kids do watch it (and they're unlikely to be sitting around on a Saturday afternoon for the repeat) they won't all be seeing it at the same time.
Plus the live aspect was one of the best things.
I just can't understand why the BBC have done this when it was so popular, and brought in people to nature who wouldn't normally have been interested (and those are exactly the audience we need to be targeting!). |

Unfortunately they seem to be watching things like Eastenders and Big Brother, even the tiny ones.

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time It's going to be every Friday at 9pm for 8 weeks, with virtually no live content........
Does that mean there will be no live camera work, as in badgers, foxes and bats?
Or does it mean without the input of live presenters?

If the time is not suitable, can't you just record it and then watch it whenever you want to? Given that most of it isn't live anyway does it matter? |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Not sure why they are changing a winning formula. I guess it's hard to keep coming up with new stuff in the current format.
Don't think they will change Springwatch though. They still have the excitement of 'will chicks leave the nest' |

it seems a great shame that your children-and presumably others-are going to have to miss out on this programme and family socialisation. are you sure they couldnt be allowed a friday night treat? im sure they could make up the lost rest/sleep time over the weekend. children are great at adapting and so long as they were ready to go straight to bed after the programme had finished...? the calming influence of it may even help their sleep!
if you find several people share your view--organise a petition--its no good just voicing your dismay here!

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Isn't that just typical of the BBC? They put on something good and, it would seem, out of sheer cussedness they have to mess about with it.
I suspect the programme planner has to keep finding something to do in order that they may be seen to be doing their job. lifemuffin |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Jaqui, I already talked about that in post 11. There's something special about watching a programme go out a) live and b) at a time when all your friends are watching and you can talk about it the next day.
My older son would be fine with a 10pm bedtime, but not my younger.
Don't worry, I've contacted the BBC and voiced my complaint! It'll be up against SCD and Derren Brown so I think the viewing figures will be well down. And before anyone says people who watch one wouldn't watch the other, I think the genius of the original A/W S/W formula was that hundreds of thousands of people ended up watching who weren't especially interested in nature (like my husband). | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
