| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Well I don't care what anyone says, I'm loving this series and so are many others looking at the viewing figures.
As for Chris P's in jokes, his T-shirts refer to sci-fi films and the back of his cards refer to some of the greatest indie albums of all time (Psycho Candy- The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses). I can only remember his Nostromo T-shirt at the moment (Nostromo was the name of the space ship in Alien) but if anybody wants any others explained, let me know, I'm an uber-geek |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Ive been away from WB for a long time as it got to the point i was fed up of the bitching and moaners and haters and old miserable gits that we seem to have all become.....after enjoying yet another great 1.5 hours of Autumnwatch i thought i would pop in and see my old friends.....and i find you all older, moaning more, bitching and being even more miserable about poor old Kate and Chris than you were about Bill and Kate.....some things never change!.
Cheer up the bloody lot of you!...one day...the bbc is going to listen to all you moaners and nit pickers and take all widlife off the tv for good....and THEN you really will be moaning!
Simon, Chris, Gordan are all very intelligent, knowledgable naturalists...Kate is a very likeable and experienced presenter. Some of us 30 somethings even fancy her...some of you 30 something women may even fancy Chris?....who gives two hoots if they flirt a bit? you all wanna thank your lucky stars im not a presenter on AW as i would be 20 times worse!....who do you want?....Charlie Chaplin and Hilda Ogden? would that suit you people more?...lol or maybe a Vicar and mother teresa?
Yeah she giggles, yeah the long haired one is irritating....but how great was the sparrowhawk drowning the magpie?.....who has ever seen a kingfisher pellet?, how nice was simons front room??!....I love SW and AW for all its faults....and i am positively sad in between times when neither is on tv...
Rant over. x

John D | But Countryfile is countryfile and Autumn/Springwatch is Autumn/Springwatch.
If they made Autumn watch just like Countryfile no doubt the moaners on here, like you, would then just say ...Autumnwatch is too much like countryfile...infact, there would then be no need four Autumnwatch at all...
You are an adult, you are old enough to make the decision that you dont like autumnwatch with its funny young presenters (which is maybe aimed at people more like myself), but you do like the sensible , straight mood of countryfile (which is aimed at people more like yourself).....so go watch that!, dont watch AT...and stop moaning.
Personally i like Aw, Sw, Countryfile, Country Tracks, Country Ways, Escape to the Country and anything else country or wildlife related and i watch them all!

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Welcome back Dan - I see you haven't changed much while you've been away either - don't worry matey you're well on track to become a moaning old git too just like us - all you have to do is live long enough - life supplies all the irritations along the way to make it happen
I enjoyed last night - tho my breath hitched in my chest a couple of times when I thought the !new! glasses may be going to be whipped up into the hairline ........
No seriously - last night was good - the team have melded into a team - it was very enjoyable to watch they have settled down well - full marks from me. The wrinkles at the outset were prob due to nerves, new presentation, new format etc. The whole production has arrived at excellence I'm sure it appeals and works for the target audience which is surely to get more folk - younger people - younger family folk - interested in the wildlife that surrounds us all.
As for the sparrowhawk using drowning - husband has watched a sparrowhawk at work deliberately take a fiesty noisy starling and drown it in one of the ponds ........ which is a hugely interesting thought that raises a lot of very interesting questions .... so some creatures - maybe only predators - understand what death is and what can cause it ......... I'm still reeling from the fact that killer whales put other whales onto their backs and cause a sort of catatonia in order to overcome and kill something larger than themselves.... there is something far more sophisticated going on than mere 'animal savagery' here isn't there ........

| Does that mean even more irritations to come then? Oh dear
Ditto with the glasses - I was holding my breath too!
A different kind of intelligence perhaps, but not just instinct surely?

| | | Re: Autumnwatch on at a new time Sorry to spoil the fun here guys ......but I just noticed this while looking for something else.... Television wildlife programmes blamed for disturbance of red deer rut - Telegraph
(BTW, I can't comment on this years AW, as I haven't seen a single episode! )

Pauline | Interesting question that. Do the sprawks understand death as a concept? Or have they just learned that by sticking their prey in water it stops them struggling? One for the animal philosophers out there.
Nice rant Dan, totally agree. Maybe you SHOULD be a presenter. I'd find it entertaining anyway
If we are to attract new people to wildlife, we have to do it in new ways. I can't wait for a wildlife show presented in the style of The Word myself | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
