| | | Re: Lost Land of the Volcano Yes, except the cave exploration parts! The insects and birds are fantastic though. The local people were very interesting also. |

| | | Re: Lost Land of the Volcano Yes, me too - although the cave bits make me come over all claustrophobic!
Love the Birds of Paradise and those tiny ground doves and parrots and the kingfisher. It looks like the next one will be even better in the "lost world" inside the crater....

...... those cave sequences tho - I kept wondering where their ropes were - and I was thinking what it would be like to swept off down that river long before they said it was dangerous and they could be swept to certain death ..... you could put a million pounds on the table and I would not go pot holing ....... and the need to abseil part way down a huge drop to swing into a cave with a vigorous river running out ....... no way no wonder I didn't sleep so good last night

| | | Re: Lost Land of the Volcano We'll have to lobby for more - 3 programmes is a very small amount to get in everything they found. Given time perhaps we will see more, but they have to log and enter data etc. I suppose that all takes time for recording and processing when they got back.
When you think of those Victorian plumes from birds of Paradise on hats etc one wonders how many birds were made extinct then, and the tribesmen's decorations brought that back to me. |

| | | Re: Lost Land of the Volcano I loved it, cave exploration bits too - how beautiful the insides of that structure and how exciting to go places no one has ever been before - I would have so loved it if they had found the giant snake the locals feared lived within!
but how sad that so much of what is being found and logged has already gone from areas only 20 miles away - all of the wonderfulness we're seeing could be entirely gone by this time next year - it makes you want to weep - I know that rainforests will heal themselves if allowed to but all those beautiful birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and mammals - terrified and homeless at best (that is assuming an insect is capable of feeling terrified of course!)and dead at worst. This is the cost of the tropical hardwood garden bench in the local garden centre.....
Awful - far too many human beings on this planet.... |

| | | Re: Lost Land of the Volcano Lets hope the scientists there make a small difference hey?
I felt for the tribe leaders too and while suspicious of human motivations at the best of times I can imagine what they must go through when deciding whether to save their own people or the habitat that supports their people.
Very tough and complicated situation I think! |

| | | Re: Lost Land of the Volcano I agree, three hours hardly does this expedition justice. There are many more things that they found and filmed that were not shown on screen, and a follow up after getting back to civvy life and the labs would be a fantastic programme. |
