I remember the original Douglas Adams radio series and have the book. I loved the story of how they recorded the Yangtse River Dolphins. The standard BBC method of waterproofing a microphone was to put a condom on it so Douglas and the team, who spoke no Chinese, ended up in a local chemists trying to buy condoms and explain to the shop assistant, who spoke no English, what they wanted them for!
Sadly for the dolphins the series title was all too prophetic as it is believed that the Yangtse dolphins are now extinct.

P.s. I've just added this to the TV & Radio calendar. The BBC web site says it starts on Sunday 6th September at 8pm but doesn't say how long each programme is or how many there will be. I've assumed six 1 hour programmes as that seems to be the norm.

| | | Re: Last chance to see I too really enjoyed the first programme.
How nice to have a considered, articulate and erudite commentary that did not talk down to the listener; and delivered its important message clearly, without hype and hysteria; but with passion.
The sterling (and pretty thankless) efforts of some people are amazing.
