| | | Re: Rivers with Griff Rhyss Jones I've been watching on iPlayer and enjoying it quite alot. I do quite like him; he's got character. And some of the places he visits are just beautiful.
But what did he say about rivers in England and Wales? Was it 96% are private and not open for the public to canoe, kiyak or row on? That's sad. I love canoeing. |

| | | Re: Rivers with Griff Rhyss Jones Really enjoying this. Taking the family to Chatsworth house as a result, should be a good day out! Need to catch up of Sundays show thought!
However, not sure if GRJ has done canoers a lot of good tbh. I personally think they should have more access to British waterways and are subjected to largly fabricated or missleading accusations from anglers. I do think he overstepped the mark by suggesting all kyakers should charge anglers as fast as they can
Not the kind of suggestion that is going to ease long standing tensions between the two groups is it
But still, I like his presenting style, agree as above, lots of charactor and a seemed interest unlike David dimbleby who did a similar program on archecture! |

Jim | I know what you mean, Jim, I find the same .. and as time goes on he seems to exaggerate his unusual manner of speech, making things even worse! Still like the prog though

But I was very pleasantly surprised a couple of weeks ago when I walked a stretch of it around Harpenden (definitely your home patch RobinP!). It seemed to be a typical chalk stream there, clear and fast flowing on a gravelly bed. It was so clear I managed to photo some fish in it, which were identified here on WAB as chub.
So I looked forward with interest to this episode of Rivers, and I wasn't at all disappointed. GRJ treated the river with a great deal of respect, and told some fascinating stories about its history and the industries on its banks. I certainly have a lot more respect for the 'very underrated' River Lea now. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
