This looks interesting, on BBC2 Tonight at 9

"As the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, London, approach their 250th anniversary, Dan Cruickshank explores some of the events that have shaped the famous enclosures. His travels take him from the corridors of power to some of the most far-flung outposts of Britain's former empire, uncovering tales of bravery, high adventure and drama that have all contributed to Kew's illustrious history."

I'll be watching the footie though so will have to catch up on iplayer.
