| | | Re: Monty Halls Great Escape Actually if I didn't have family commitments down here, I'd be seriously looking at moving to the 'Highlands and Islands'!
I had another look at my posting that gave offence, and I admit I had a little chuckle that you took my outrageous remark seriously!

As Jim said, family commitments. It'd do for me though and I'd love to bring up our little nipper up on an island like Lewis. We went up to North Uist and Harris last summer and I thought them splendid. I wouldn't mind going to Saint Kilda before I snuff it as well. Though I expect it'll be another one of life's unfulfilled yearnings.

Regards, Chris | Life is too short for regrets - you pass by once(maybe)... I never want to say 'I wonder what ???? would have been like' |

Jim | You could always try and book onto an NTS work party working on St Kilda, see and experience the place and do some valuable work for the island at the same time! Look at the volunteering pages of the website (i think) |

Jim | No Jim I haven't. If it's a good one, I'll add it to my 'books to read list'. I presume it's about St Kilda.
And yes, it does look a bit of a swine to get to. Quote:

I'd love to jack my hideous job in and vanish off to the Western Isles, never to be seen again. But I have serious commitments these days and will have to make do with holidays instead of complete lifestyle changes.....alas.

| | | Re: Monty Halls Great Escape Just back from a couple of weeks on Skye during which time we did a trip to Applecross and Sand.
Monty's "Beachcomber Cottage" is open and much visited by people from all over the world, to judge from the Visitors Book, placed there in March by the folk at Applecross House Walled Garden! (Incidentally, a beautiful Garden open to all with a cafe serving superb food. )
The composting toilet in the yard is still there (yes, we both made a contribution ) and there is a "gravestone" at the top of the beach with the scratched insrcription "Here Lies Doris the pig" - presumably what was left after they barbecued her in the final episode!
It's a beautiful beach with magnificent views across to Skye and Raasay - but what we were NOT shown in the TV programme was the next-door neighbours: a large MoD/Qinetic installation bristling with aerials and complete with helipad!
Oh, and I am still sure those red lampshades are upside down.
