| | | Darwin Season 2009 - On BBC Just a heads up on a new series starting shortly on BBC TV, about Charles Darwin. (Commemorating 200th Anniversary of his birth).
No specific start date given yet, just advised as starting January. (BBC Radio 4 also has some radio programmes being transmitted as part of this series, and these have already started transmission this week).
Regards
Mike.

| | | Re: Darwin Season 2009 - On BBC Im already panicking at trying to keep up and not miss anything on tv and radio being a die hard Darwinian!
I have all 4 major books of his on way from the folio society...i have watched and recorded the Dawkins 'genius of Charles Darwin'....I have spent a full 4 hours at the Darwin Big Idea exhibition at the NHM...and recorded all the 'Darwin in our lifetime' shows on radio 4 this week as well as the 'Dear Darwin' letter shows...i recorded the 'Hunting for HMS beagle' on radio 4...and that has all been since Christmas!
There is a whole heap more tv and radio stuff planned in 2009...my planning is going to be tested! please use this thread as a heads up (preferably in advance) of ANYTHING Darwin related in press, radio, tv or other media!
I know there is an Attenborough/Darwin tv doc planned? this may be part of this new series?

| | | Re: Darwin Season 2009 - On BBC What Darwin Didn't Know - For anyone interested, tonight 9pm on BBC4.
Program discusses recent developments following on from Darwin's original evolution theories.
Sounds interesting.
Regards
Mike.

Cheers,

| | | Re: Darwin Season 2009 - On BBC It's Sunday, which is the 1st, on BBC1 at 9pm. Shame it's only a single programme and not a series.
The book published to coincide with the '70's TV series was Darwin and The Beagle by Alan Moorehead. It's not a bad book but Darwin's own Voyage of the Beagle is better. It would be nice if they showed the series again or released it on DVD.

Dave P. | The folio edition is one of my two versions...( i have all four folio society darwin books now)...but i have bad news for you mate.....
They have withdrawn the VOTB folio edition...it is no longer listed on the website and they told me they dont plan to re publish it for a few years? crazy behavour seeing as this is the darwin year and the other 3 books are still available and selling like crazy? i got my folio VOTB from a dealer in the end.

| | | Re: Darwin Season 2009 - On BBC That's a nuisance. And I agree, it's a pretty dumb decision bearing in mind what this year is.

| | | Re: Darwin Season 2009 - On BBC At first when it vanished i presumed a revised darwin birthday year version would re appear or something so i mailed them and they said it wont be redone for a good few years?...someone in marketing needs shooting considering 'the origin' was the folio's top selling book last year!
And another heads up which may render this thread useless but....if you go to the BBC Darwin page which lists all these programs in the darwin season you can put your email in and sign up for pre program email warnings so you dont miss anything! BBC - Darwin
