There seemed to be more information & proper footage, with less of the uninteresting setting up type shots.
I found the section on phosphorescent corals and the "birth of an ocean/moving tectonic plates particularly interesting.

The 4th programme is on tonight in case you didn't know.
I'm enjoying the series immensely and disagree with some of the posts above. Having no idea about diving I've found it interesting to learn a little about re-breathers and the set up required to carry out the dives etc. Last nights programme was also interesting to hear about all the red tape that needed to be fought through to allow the surveys to take place. The luminous coral, I had socks that colour once, was amazing and so unexpected. My knowledge of our seas has certainly increased over the last three weeks.

As for the Red Tape - Yep I can certainly vouch for that, when we last dived the Red Sea we had no end of delays & constant searching & document control by the authorites. (When the guy with a machine gun says stand there in a line, well you pretty much stand there in a line ).
We even got boarded by the Egyptian military who were going to arrest the mechanic for carrying out repairs to the ship's engine. Then they found a concrete head sculpture on board, and were going to arrest eveyone for stealing egyptian artefacts. (For a piece of concrete shaped like a head ).
Still it makes for interesting anecdotes after the event.

| | | Re: Oceans - on BBC2 The series as far as I am concernd is just getting better and better, Dugons in the Indian ocean amongst other things tonight. Some thing else i've never heard of 1/3 dolphin 2/3 elephant. Plus Mantas having there shark bites cleaned by other fish, and poor Tooni being sick over the side of the boat, bless her.
only three programmes to go

| | | Re: Oceans - on BBC2 Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of the series I get so used to not having the TV on because there's nothing worth watching, that I miss the odd good programme!
It will probably come out on DVD, so I'll wait 'til then

So sad about the Sharks tho........how they are going to stop it when the fishermen can earn such large sums of money is worrying.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the 2nd part of the Indian Ocean episode tonight. |

Caught up with this on iplayer today - as Ruth says those Manta Rays are incredible
But its maddening about the sharks fins - whether it be for soup or medicine in the far east - its time MacDonalds got over there and swamped the market with burgers ............

| | | Re: Oceans - on BBC2 There was more amazing footage in last nights episode, especially the Whale Sharks and those wonderful Sea Horses!
It was nice to see how careful they were in moving, handling and replacing them back in exactly the same spot from where they'd found them. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
