| | | Animals in the Womb Did anyone watch the programme on Channel 4 last nite about the birthing process of 4 different animals? It featured a Lemon Shark, Kangaroo, Wasp and Penguin and featured video footage and ultra sounds of the different animals births etc.
It showed Sharks feeding on siblings in their mothers womb, wasps laying eggs inside caterpillars with them hatching from the caterpillars body, the kangaroo shadow boxing in his mothers pouch etc. Was truely amazing and i loved it, if you didn't catch it i'd suggest it's worth watching on Channel 4's iplayer. |

| | | Re: Animals in the Womb Thought it was an excellent program.
Just goes to show the extraordinary adaptation that mother nature can provide in order to increase the chances for the continuity to the next generation of any given species.
Also goes to show how ruthless, and sometimes downright gruesome those adaptations & methods have become.
Nevertheless - compelling viewing.

It featured a Lemon Shark... It showed Sharks feeding on siblings in their mothers womb...
| I have this waiting on my Sky+ box and am really looking forward to watching it (the previous one was excellent). I'm especially interested in the shark aspect: I was under the impression that Lemon sharks ( Negaprion brevirostris) were placentally viviparous and, as such, didn't practice oophagy/adelphophagy (i.e. eating other eggs in the womb or eating their developing siblings). Should be good
Cheers,

| | | Re: Animals in the Womb I thought the way the wasps took advantage of the caterpillars was intriguing.
Even after they'd hatched out of him he still did their bidding, protecting them until he starved to death!
Strange, must have been a wasp version of a jedi-mind-trick | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
