| | | BBC looking for Wildlife Enthusiasts & Photographers This looks like an absolutely fantastic opportunity for someone!
Picked up a copy of Amateur Photographer today and on page 13 there is an article about the BBC looking for 'nine people who share a passion for the natural world. As well as wildlife lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, we would very much like to hear from keen photographers.'
The chosen ones will get to spend up to 10 weeks on location next spring and, on the show, called "To The Ends of the Earth", will be required to 'track down and film extraordinary animals in extraordinary places.'
The show's producer said 'I can confirm that after a brief period of learning they will be filming footage themselves. We're looking for people who want to work behind the scenes on these natural history programmes, rather than present them.'
The prize for the winner is a year's placement in the BBC natural history unit.
You have to be at least 18 to apply but there's no upper age limit. Anyone interested should email endsoftheearth@bbc.co.uk for an application form and the closing date is 26 November 2008.
Before anyone asks, no I won't be applying myself (too many comitments - mortgage, son at uni, etc.)
And even if we don't manage to get nine WAB members onto the programme this still looks like being the first ever reality TV show worth watching!

Reason: added a couple of eeks after the prize, cos it needed them really...

Oh, and it's on page 7 of Amateur Photographer, not page 13 - d'oh!

| | | Re: BBC looking for Wildlife Enthusiasts & Photographers I do hope someone from here will feature. Trouble is, many WABber type folk are unassuming and prefer to stay away from the limelight! Goes with the territory I guess...Having said that, the show's producer seems to be aware of that characteristic, in saying: 'I can confirm that after a brief period of learning they will be filming footage themselves. We're looking for people who want to work behind the scenes on these natural history programmes, rather than present them.' Ah! No excuses???
And the carrot alone should be a very big persuasive element; "The prize for the winner is a year's placement in the BBC natural history unit." OMG. If I qualified, I'd enter! Just imagine, maybe the chance of meeting up with the mighty Sir David Attenborough
Nice find, Dave P.
