| | | Re: Autumnwatch 2008 : Brownsea Island, Dorset Hurrah!
I can hardly wait.
I concur though, the summer did fly by.
What with Autumnwatch and River Cottage too, it only seems like yesterday since I was enjoying the spring editions of these shows!
Maybe I am getting older now. hmm....
Ah well, perhaps in the blink of an eye I'll be next spring and I'll be pulling up radishes |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch 2008 : Brownsea Island, Dorset ..........and we forgot it was this evening and have missed the first half of the prog - so I shall download it tomorrow and see what we missed.
On a personal note I think I'm going to struggle with it this time as I enjoyed the spring version so much this year that I suspect this autumn might be a bit of a let down. I know folk will shout and think I'm mad but actually (I'll whisper) I didn't like Brownsea when I went.......... the lagoon and the terns from the low hide were good, but the rest of it left me cold, the squirrels were out to lunch, there were too many folk about, the weather was too hot for me, and I didn't like the little boat.......... Afraid I like my islands wild cool with rugged coastline and a lot less people and a bigger boat
And I'm not particularly entranced by deer rutting - any deer........ and the seals I just can't stop myself thinking how precarious their little lives are - was it last year that all 70 pups were washed off and drowned..........
Think I had better slink of to bed before bricks start coming out of the monitor screen.............

Bill and Kate have obviously been told to calm it lol as they were not the annoying prats they normally are. Simon was as lovely as ever..the wild was good too.. |

| | | Re: Autumnwatch 2008 : Brownsea Island, Dorset Managed to remember to watch it tonight, and was pleasantly surprised. The Brownsea location seems to have a lot going for it, with the "lagoon", sika deer etc. I agree there is only so much rutting and seal babies - however adorable - you can watch over 2 weeks of hour long progs, but so far so good.
Incidentally, did anyone catch Kate and Bill's interview on BBC Breakfast this morning? I don't want to start another round of "Bill bashing" as I think he does a great job on the programme itself, and the banter and ocassional niggles between him and Kate often add to the entertainment. But this morning, he was at his worst - couldn't hear on his earpiece link to the studio, and spent almost the whole 5 minute feature waffling on about modern technology breaking down, and saying he was pleased he couldn't hear the comments in the studio, as they obviously didn't know anything about wildlife. Poor Kate was left standing there, open-mouthed and unable to even get a word in the try to salvage the situation. Its such a shame he feels the need to let himself down like that, as he is such a knowledgable bloke and obviously so passionate about wildlife. No wonder people moan about him! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
