| | | Jimmy and the Bees Jimmy and the Bees...no...not some failed one hit wonder 60's band.
Jimmy Dougherty (Jimmy's Farm) took a break from his farm or from his 'farming heros' tonight and visited my 'second home' of Nepal...to take part in the traditional and stupudly dangerous wild bee honey harvest...
The Honey Hunters ...top people...top honey...crazy harvest technique!
They were also the subject of a found edition of national geographis and subsequent book by french photography Eric Valli (He also directed the film 'Himalaya').
If tonights program (which THANKFULLY eventually mentioned the plight of the british and global honey bee decline) sparked your interest have a serch for Eric Vallis amazing photo's or book on them
I have travelled quite a bit in Nepal and Tibet so im always interested in related documentaries etc because my fear of flying means i probably wont ever get there again....(We drove there in a truck from London before you ask)

| | | Re: Jimmy and the Bees Tried to watch the programme and lost interest after half an hour, some nice shots of birds but no info about what we were seeing (Wheres bill oddie when you need him?,you can insert any wildlife presenter with the same result) Just like most programmes, they tell you what they are going to do but fill in with 45 minutes of waffle but unlike The Lost Land Of The Jaguar, not very interesting waffle.Just my opinion |

A very interesting and unusual film...amazing bee pictures....,but what about all those leeches amongst the vegetation. Did you see many of those when you went there Dan?

| | | Re: Jimmy and the Bees I agree sanderling ( lets just put sleipnero's post down to grumpy old man syndrome)
I thought the prog was full of info myself and gave you the bigger picture of life in a Nepalise hill village....infro i personally dont need but im sure others would have found interesting...
No i never encountered any leeches...probably due to the seasons...i done my trekking in the winter...Jan/ Feb time...and was in tibet for March...so it was pretty much snow, ice and minus 22 temps and then i was in Kathmandu for most of April.

| | Re: Jimmy and the Bees sorry lads and lasses I have to agree with the grummpy one, they never do tell you what wildlife is in the programme. You see birds and butterflies going by without comment.
