WHEN is "Springwatch" starting in Norfolk this year?? I have heard nothing about it, other than it'll be in Norfolk, and don't want to miss it |

Ha ha...they cant do it now!....all the footage we see on springwatch which is shown in the summer is being filmed now and as spring progresses.

I love Springwatch/Autumn Watch, the only downside is it brings all the same old 'Bill Oddie knockers' out of hibernation on the various forums, the programme wouldn't be the same without him and I love it when he perhaps goes a bit too far with Kate and she sits there looking as if she's sucking on a lemon.  She can take it though and gives as good as she gets, they make a good team more so than some of the other presenters she appears with when it can sometimes seem a bit forced. |

Stop-press  I have it on good authority that Simon King is filming in the Cairngorms this time - so poss little Scottish Badgers and pine martin (tho neither showed the 2 nights we visited - is it something I said do you think??) Or have the critters heard they are being filmed by the BBC and they've all emmigrated - to Wales..............

I should think they will have been told where to wait for cappers; the ptarmigan and the mountain hares are easy enough for fit lithe young folk prepared to walk and climb. And just poss they might film some footage in the Wildlife Zoo at Kingussie - that maybe the only way to get wild cats and maybe the only ethical way - I think I'd rather they sat outside a cage and filmed than chase down genuine wild free animals that are totally unused to humans coming anywhere near......... Its just a thought - tho I don't think I will go in that particular wildlife zoo again - I found it just too upsetting - the cages were not big enough. There should be a stratergy where each species has a small and a big cage side by side and for - lets say 2 hours each afternoon the staff could usher the critters into the smaller cage for folks to see more easily - then they should be left to go back into a much larger area for the rest of the time. That's just my view - and I would consider a revisit and paying my money again to go in - whereas it stands at the min I won't go again......

I for one will be watching again. It's the only reality show I do watch. Granted, it may not be edge of the seat excitement, but that's what watching wildlife is all about. You can have long periods with absolutely nothing, then, all of a sudden something magical happens and makes all worth while. The true stars are of course the animals, the rest..... just bit part players.

I shall be back from my holiday just before it starts
It would be great if they did show more insect life, but I guess we will get the usual nesting birds, Badgers, foxes....not that I dont enjoy seeing this, 'coz I do
Aaahh Scottish Wildcats, now that would be a treat, but then anything Simon King ( ) does is all right by me. |

I note that Simon is in the Cairngorms this time. Can't wait to see that. Have not visited for a few years. Bill and Kate in Norfolk according to Teletext.
I think this was quite an orginal idea by the BBC and even if it has been going for a few years it is SO much better than reality shows which seem to spring up all the time. I personally can't wait and will try to watch each evening. |

I'd like the BeeB to commission a series dedicated to British insect. I think they'd be onto a winner, you only have to look how popular the insect forum is on this site to see what interest there is in the subject. Life in the undergrowth was a magical series with some spectacular camera work, but I felt a little detached because it was about insects I'm unlikely ever to see. Unfortunately it would cost more to produce than "Ready Steady Bargain Hunters Moving To The Country". So I don't think it will ever happen.

I think the Red Deer RUT is getting a little tiresome now
