Not sure what they're called, but some looked like water iris?, they are like the garden iris but bigger and have yellow flowers and spread very quickly as we put some in our garden pond and while its quite big we have to keep trimming them back, he also doesn't want to publicise the different wherabouts of the hares too much or he will be plagued with hare coursers as we are in Lincs, people have actually been shoved in dykes or drains and even injured trying to get them off their land, or their straw stacks or barns have mysteriously caught fire after confronting them |

| | | re: Johny Kingdom I think you can rest assured all those plants were NATIVe , partly due to him refering to them as "wild flowers" partly due to the fact a garden centre/specialist was involved whom i doubt would want to be televised planting non natives around a wildlife pond?...and i dont think Johnny is quite THAT daft....just a very big little bit daft ! )
yeah heads up tonight and tomorrow night...cant wait!
anyways im off to make MY TEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAA before watching Johnny "innacuracy" Kingdom on HIS LAAAAAAAAANND !

| | | re: Johny Kingdom The yellow iris we have in our pond are certainly native, we 'aquired' them originaly over 20 years ago from some old clay pits next to the river near us that had naturally filled up with water and were a haven for water birds, they grew profusely around there until for some reason the local drainage board dug a large dyke and drained them a few years ago and are now barren and mostly dried up apart from after a heavy rain. I enjoyed Johnny last night I wonder if the Badgers will end up on 'his land', or if he gets any doormice, I bet he can't resist a peek in the boxes wether he's licenced or not. |

But despite great views of Roe deer from his new hide he has no luck with the calves until a local photographer helps him out." |

priceless | Yes it was ha ha....also i patted myself on the back last night, when we saw him put up his tawny owl box in episode one i think? i said to my mum, it will never work, he has put it at totally the wrong angle....then last night he went to the expert and said " See...i think i have done my box wrong its not at an angle like yours"...i smiled.
Also...in Johnnys defence i have several books that have the "tennis ball mouse nest box" idea and claim it does work!....however what johnny doesnt realise ( bless him) is it is a method used for tiny little Harvest Mice, as it resembles their natural nest...not Dormice...

| | | re: Johny Kingdom Great program
Although the Tawny box design he used aren't great IMO, far to narrow to allow an Owl to get in and out easily, the one his friend used worked because it had a wide bottom, would be far better with a larger squarer box IMO |

| | | re: Johny Kingdom I got my photo as well yesterday, so all's well with the world I also thought it was very moving when he was talking about Bambi, we are always heartbroken when we lose a pet whatever they may be and say never again, but we always sucumb but she seemed extra special to him. In last nights prog the shots of the Wild Boar and all the babies was excellent and I'm pleased his wife was involved. It was a bit ironic though as there had been a piece on the telly news yesterday that because they are breeding so well in some places they are becomming a nuiscance, (one even appearing in a school playground) and could have to be shot, but with no clear guidelines each area can decide if or how many etc that's if I understood rightly, no doubt Dan will correct me if I'm wrong. perhaps if the people who complained that their dogs have been 'attacked' when running lose in the Boars habitat kept their animals on a lead this maybe wouldn't be happening. He was saying that his pond had dropped two feet in the dry weather he perhaps ought to raise his outlet pipe to allow more depth of water in incase it happens again or he'll be getting dead fish etc when they are introduced. |

I am thinking of tking up squatters rights on "HIS LAND!" it looks fantastic.. how jealous am I!
I am totally addicted to this man and his series and watch it everytime i see it advertised on any channel on Sky.
He has so much love and passion for local wildlife you cant help but get drawn in.
But saying that a lot of people on Exmoor aren't happy or impressed with him, as now so many people are going there and destroying lots of the moorland and destroying the peace and quiet they are use to especially in the Autumn and Winter.
But I still think hes great
