Nature shock

Nature Shock on five at 8:00pm January 29th, 2008 - UK TV Guide

This is a documentary series looking at freak occurrences in the natural world. Last week they were in Yellowstone park where brown bears were being found dead, skinned and some were headless. It turned out grizzly bears were responsible

This week nature shock is about attacks on dolphins and Porpoise.

Re: Nature shock

Sounds a bit ifi to me why were they headless? and skinned ?sounds more like poachers to me,skin for coats, head for mountin to hang on some rich boasting familys wall,so he can say" i shot that".why would a bear take the head?

No It legit I watched it. There were claw marks and a brown bear was hibernating and a grizzly claw was found close by. They new that grizzlies do kill and eat there bears.

Yes! its more than that, the grizzlies fight with the brown bear males over territory and bite their genitals off. presumably to keep them from mating if they survive the attack..

Do the bears survive having their genitals bitten off - made my eyes water reading about it.

I remeber seeing a documentary a few years back about chimps hunting other chimps in a pack and then eating them, not very nice viewing I can tell ya.

Re: Nature shock

An amusing thread, naturelover - you've made me smile again what with bears who bite genitals off others and you calling them "caniballs" !

Re: Nature shock

Im loving this series (although largely not about the UK). Oddly the only one i have missed so far is the one talked of in this thread (cannibal bears).

The ones i have caught are:

The Dolphin Murders....turns out it was infanticide...bottle nose dolphins killing baby bottle nose and killing scottish harbour porpoises as target practice

Zombie Crocodiles.....full grown crocs going belly up and losing ability to move etc....cause was a chain reaction....people polluting the lake, poisonous alien algal bloom (blue green algae)killing most species of fish....one species thrived on this polluted habitat and the population exploded....meaning the crocs were eating solely this species....however the fish carried a bacteria that detroyed something called thiamin? i think?...which is basically vitamin b....so the crocs were dying of a vitamin b deficiency!....fascinating stuff.

Then last nights was

Dolphin rescue:.....humans sustaining shark attacks were saved by groups of dolphins circling them long enough to drive away the sharks!

Not sure if the :Man who lived with Wolves or the Man who lived with Bears were 2 programs in this series but they were also on recently and very interesting !

Is the series being repeated anywhere ? I'd love to see the dolphin/shark one.
