Bill Oddies Wildside

Bill Oddie's Wild Side Bill Oddie delves into the quirkier side of British wildlife and, with the help of wildlife cameraman John Aitchison and sound recordist Chris Watson, reveals normally hidden natural worlds. Every week Bill will be taking on a tough 24hr challenge - such as being buried in shingle beneath 30,000 birds!

BBC2 WEDNESDAY 9th JANUARY AT 8.00PM

If he continues in the same manner as he does on the Autumnwatch with interruptions, moustache licking etc. then buried in shingle sounds good to me.

Yep, same here. Bill's fine when on his own and I enjoy his nature programmes but definitely not the seasonal "watch" programmes when he seems to want to be the centre of attention.

Re: Bill Oddies Wildside

watched the last couple of installments of Bill and as usual he's still bonkers! Just look at his garden!! The crazy Jesus-stealing Fox was amusing though

Some parts of the programme were really enjoyable - I have particularly liked the camera filming tasks set with John Aitchison - but he (Bill) can be just as annoying as ever when he tries to be funny but clearly isn't!

Still, as has been pointed out - he is certainly enthusiastic for wildlife and that can't be knocked

Yes, some of Bill's behaviour can be a bit erratic but on balance I would still rather see him on TV than not.

I think that John Aitchison is excellent .... his short films and accompanying narration that have been shown on Springwatch and Autumnwatch are brilliant .

hi wmgray, yes I agree with you. However silly B Oddie may appear, and his garden is very very silly, his enthusiasm for all creatures, even those rats, is infectious and informative. The filming on the rubbish dump was good too

Re: Bill Oddies Wildside

I was a great fan of his early series. I suppose everything evolves but I just don't think his recent stuff is as interesting (or entertaining).

Re: Bill Oddies Wildside

I have to agree Bill has had his day for me. Filming tame deer on the Isle of Rum with ear tags and saying they were wild takes some beating. There are camera people out there with much better stuff ie johny kingdom with budgets in the hundreds not hundreds of thousands (Simon King) !!!!!!!!

Caught some of last nights programme, the bit with him trying to confuse his rats. I wonder what he's going to do next?

Re: Bill Oddies Wildside

Hi, new here, so have just read this thread.

Personally I'm not quite sure what the point of "Bill Oddie's Wildside" is. It seems a bit thin to me. The best bits are his LSD-trip garden.

Also, old Bill annoyed me with his thumbs-up for ring-necked parakeets. Has he ever looked out of his kitchen window and seen all his birdfeeders commandeered by the green b*ggers and another twenty waiting in the tree for their turn?

In my observation r/n parakeets are agressive types - they won't share a feeder with another non-r/n parakeet bird. I prefer feral pigeons - at least they clear up any spilt food.
