Paul | This programme certainly had an impact on my household. Over the past week we've eaten venison, pheasant, mallard and tonight we have bunny for tea. It's an experience. lol.

It's a very healthy meat too - extremely low in fat.

| | | Re: Hugh's Chicken Run............. Hate to sound like a bad advert, but I'm still shopping at Lidl / the farm shop. I get my free-range meat and eggs from the latter, and everything else at the former and it's SO much cheaper all-in (even though the meat's slightly more expensive). The veg at Lidl this week are Soil Association accredited organic, which is brilliant - haven't seen these anywhere else in town, and I think I said before about the FairTrade range they do. The only stuff they don't do is an Ecover range, but then again, if you buy Aerial you can wash at a lower temp so maybe that's as good? |

| | | Re: Chicken out campaign!!!! Hi Folks,
I’m forwarding the email from PledgeBank - Tell the world "I'll do it, but only if you'll help" to encourage people to take action for more chickens to be farmed free-range, not in horrible batteries or broilers.
>>>
The best way of helping the pledge to succeed is to email it
to some friends right now.
All you need to ask them is to visit 'I will only buy free range chicken and eggs, and write to local supermarkets, as well as major ones, about phasing out battery eggs and chickens because of the cruelty involved.' - PledgeBank and sign up.
All the best,
-- the PledgeBank.com team

Please, please, please, if you care enough about the well-being of chickens to visit this thread! |

It invites people to sign the Chickensrun pledge on PledgeBank - Tell the world "I'll do it, but only if you'll help" to enourage better welfare conditions. |

Excellent news indeed .... let's hope that this is sustained and further improved on.
HFW seems to have done a great job.

"A few weeks ago I submitted a resolution to Tesco plc with the support of 102 shareholders representing some 3.7 million ordinary shares. The resolution challenges Tesco’s claims about poultry welfare, and urges them to set new minimum welfare standards, including lower stocking densities and more environmental stimuli for the birds.
Now Tesco have told me that they will only take our resolution to the AGM if I meet the cost of distributing the relevant papers to their shareholders. They are entitled to waive this fee, and we have requested that they do so, in the interest of shareholder democracy, but they have declined. In other words, the resolution is dead in the water unless I pay them £86,888 to print and post the papers out to all 269,000 Tesco shareholders." Hugh’s Tesco Chicken Check Out Challenge |

The more I hear about a certain supermarket, the angrier I get. I never go there now, and it used to be my number one place to shop. (Not that they're bothered, making a zillion pounds a minute.) |

| | | Re: Hugh's Chicken Run............. Yes, that's true. They've started giving away free gifts now when you spend over a certain amount (box of Weetabix, eg) and I wondered whether this was just our local store. It smacked slightly of desperation to me. But if it's nationwide then it's just an ordinary promotion. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
