| | | River Cottage Gone Fishing River Cottage Gone Fishing looks from the clips like its going to be about showing the wide variety of beautiful creatures in the sea that are shunned by the customer (not the fisherman) over the chip-shop counter - to the devastation of those unlucky few that we like so much.
I think hfw will have achieved something very worthwhile if he manages in his quest to begin the decline of poor treatment of animals that are born for the dinner table. I read through his book 'Meat' a year or so ago and the philosophy of eating less but eating better meat really impressed me as a lone voice of common sense with one foot in the foodie camp and one in the green movement.
Highly recommend it, i have to admit i was never a fan of the man at first, but his achievements have (to my mind) shown the way forward.
Spending a day on the water and maybe taking a few fish, and learning how to make a beautiful meal from them (irrespective of the fact they havent come up from the brine as cod in batter) sounds like a great day to me, more power to his elbow |

| | | Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing I hope I'm not going to upset too many people by saying that I think Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is simply a 'bored rich boy'. I love the underlying concept of these programs, but can't abide these so-called 'celebrity chefs' who pretend that they're somethig they're not ... why didn't he stick to conservation in Africa?
Ok, rant over Sorry

The cheek of the man! He's even pretending to be a farmer these day's by owning a farm and keeping livestock on it!
And as for the chicken out campaign, what is that all about? Chicken Out Campaign!
Get back to Africa Hugh. |

| | | Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing Think HFW advises to only eat meat one day a week. I suppose meaning that if you eat it, to make sure it's produced to high welfare standards, organic and not cheap rubbish. Think the world would be a better place if this happened. I like him even though I'm a vegetarian, he shows people where food comes from and has some respect for animals.

| | | Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing great program, loved the ol' chap with the smoker in his back garden especially. And the Launce(?) sneaked out of the pocket to win the bet
The thing i like about it is the whole approach and attitude to food. Put in lots of effort to get the very best you can, dont worry about the bits they normally cut of - or hide them in a stew etc - and enjoy the day while youre about it!
(and make sure you can beat anyone in the pub at downing a pint of cider, even if it is best of 5...7...9....) |

Julie | Lol, actually if you look at the members mugshot thread you will see how much of a skilled angler I am! I was also the local junior match champion once too!
I liked the bloke with smoker, that was one hell of contraption wasn't it? | | | | |
