The bloke that suggests the smacking with a rolling pin is Jamie Olivers mate aint he? |

| | | Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing If you put the crab in the freezer Julie it "shuts" down the crabs system so it feels nowt, this is allegedly of course as I am not a crab and have never been in a freezer and then dunked into boiling water, I get the feeling that I would'nt like it.

Julie | No, it does not kill them, it sort of puts them gently to sleep (dormant) I think. As far as I know this is the most humane method, wrapping it in a bag and smashing it with a rolling pin is just wrong aint it? |

| | | Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing personally, the screwdriver seems the quickest and most humane to me, the crab must feel the cold surely?
at least if its very quick and decisive its suffering will be over in poss less than half a second. not the nicest of chores tho.
i can help feeling that the freezer option is just a way to remove the slightly grim bit from the cook, i'd personally prefer the final moment to be as quick as poss. freezing to near death cant be fun for anything?
i dont mean this as any criticism, i'm just flapping my gums |

| | | Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing fish curries are great - easy to make yourself too. they take marinade really well.
i am lucky enough to live near the curry mile in Mcr, which has some fantastic restaurants but the fish curry i enjoyed most in my life (excluding my wife's) was in Bridport. it sounds rank to everyone i mention it too, but take it from me it was food of the Gods.... it was a sardine curry with chips...drooool.
i didnt fancy rice (i'd been sailing for a few days in January and was in the mood for plenty of fried carbs) and it was on the seafront - so i hoped the fish would be super fresh.
i appologised to the waiter for seeming like such a heathen, but my god it was good fuel |
