LOl, A Skilled Angler , is that just two fish i can see there..your need to bring in a few more than that if you want starting making your own programme.." Stewy Gone fishing" or is it the quality not the quantity that counts these days...

Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing

I've only ever been sea fishing a few times Julie and that's mainly been just feathering for Mackerel which I do eat but just grilled whole, when I was younger I was into coarse fishing so to be honest I know very little about sea fishing. (although you can see the proof of my skills!)

Had a go at this Rick Stein one last Saturday, total disaster I tell thee, over cooked the fish, under cooked the spuds, didn't like the watercress in it......................

Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing

Up on par with all his other stuff Dan.
If you like his other programmes you'll like this one too
The usual sense of competition with his friends, interesting recipes (though as usual its not a cookery show - per 'here's how to do it' type of thing)
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Oh yes, it was pure 'Hugh' Dan! I've been searching but can't seem to find a repeat listed anywhere which seems odd. Maybe someone else know's if it's going to be shown again?

Julie - just let us know what you buy at the fish market and we'll give you some tips on what to do with it and how to get the best out of it lol!

it looked as though at some point in its operation someone was going to pull their head out of a cabinet with a comedy smoke blacked face and their hair stood up on end!

the enthusiasm of the chap who built it for new things to try was fantastic, the garfish 'ring' looked great.
city celeb chefs with their finery and big white hats can keep em, i'd rather be in that back garden!

Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing

Hey Coasty
We had a days fishing from Scarborough as a works outing. We fished all day and caught a seagull (foulhooked) and a pebble with a hole in it off the bottom.
Good day out though, saw plenty of porpoises.

Re: River Cottage Gone Fishing

one of the main issues with fish - and the secret to success - is proper filleting.
the technique to taking the spine and ribs out of trout is great fun, and filleting pike isnt a doddle to me yet, but it isnt that hard - and i'm a pretty rubbish cook.
call me a wierdo, but it gives you a chance to pay respect and appreciate the fish while he's on the table before the knife comes out.

i'd love to see at least one episode of Gone Fishing on UK species that can be taken in low-ish numbers from our rivers and ponds.

its been the turning point for me over the past few years to really make me want to eat a lot less meat, killing it/ seeing it die (and actually being the one to prep the body) makes me want to only take the minimum i need, and definately not waste anything that has given its life for me. respect is due mr harry!!
