Re: Autumnwatch

I like Bill Oddie and Kate presenting together, they add a bit of fun to the proceedings when things get boring on Autumn Watch as can happen sometimes, not as exciting as Springwatch!
Nevertheless am looking forward to it and yes hopefully, not too much rutting scenes this time around.

According to the tv guide Simon King is covering rutting Wild Boar in the Forest of Dean this series, but the Red Deer and Foxes will feature again too.

Yes it could get messy LOL ! The Boar coverage will be what makes me tune in,as its something different. I usually find the programmes tedious after a couple of episodes.

Re: Autumnwatch

I shall be watching, love the programmes. The Wild Boar should provide some never seen before entertainment.

Re: Autumnwatch

We tuned in. I have just woken up and found my guv'nor had turned it off, fed up already with the incessant chatter and interruptions.

I hate the constant switching around. Over half the programme seems taken up with repetitive linking, introductions and farewells. Surely we are able to sustain concentration on a topic for more than 30 seconds.

Such a shame as the idea behind the programme is first class.

Colin

PS Is it our TV or has someone has his hair dyed - perhaps as a stunt for Autumn?

Re: Autumnwatch

Is it just me or is the pointless waffle between Humble and Oddie increasing with each series....it began to grate on me after 2mins. If the Beeb were to get rid of these 2 and let Simon King present the programme it would be transformed i reckon. Reducing the number of times they switched between locations etc would make it more watchable too.Think i`ll be watching the rest of the series with the tv volume down to mute Humble and Oddie and concentrate on the excellent filming

Re: Autumnwatch

Can I just say Hmmmmmmmmmmm Simon King.

In addition, did anyone see the Hedgehog bite Bill Oddie...LOL. I have heard that it is very rare for a Hedgehog to bite! Trust Bill.

On another note, it is really hard to keep a live show going without mindless chatting. It is in fact a seamless show.

Yes, you`re right, but not to the extent of tonight`s show.Never noticed the Hedgehog biting Bill.....seems he can even drive placid creatures like Hedgehogs to attack!

The thing that made me laugh was that it came directly after the Shrew film - you remember what the Shrew did to Bill's finger a while back? The Hedgehog must have been taking notes

Didnt see that i`m afraid, I never manage to watch a whole series of Spring/Autumnwatch for the reasons i mentioned above. I`m determined to watch this series though as the Wild Boar footage interests me a great deal. Judging from Simon Kings comments tonight though, the Boar footage isnt going to be to the same extent as that of the Deer etc and will be mixed with other stuff.I hope there is plenty of coverage though....

Wild Boar im afraid...not wolves.
Bill was irritating from about 4 seconds in until the end...and whats with the mid/late life chrisis hair dye?

The Hedgehog biting him was the highlight for many of us...its amazing how most of you missed that part? just shows that he makes you shut off...and lose interest...i suspect you were all off making tea?..

Simon King is a legend but i had to laugh at not being able to find 9 million starlings?...infact there was not a single life form in those reeds? no mammals, birds...not even a warm dead firework?...oh dear...i just KNOW that Harry Hill is going to use that "clip" and rip into it on his tv week funny show thing?...again...9 million starlings and they cant find them...tee hee

Re: Autumnwatch

I got the impression the missing Starlings bit was staged to give a bit more reality to the programme ie. not always getting it right?

LOL You reckon........ so all that crew are going to spend all night without a wink of sleep moving all those miles of cables and crates of gear and vehicles just to add a bit of reality

Re: Autumnwatch

Well....when you consider the homework that must have gone into a lot of the footage shown you`d think they could find 6 million Starlings Theyre not exactly inconspicuous and a quick phone call round some of the local birders would i`m sure have put them in the right place.Thats just what occurred to me, I may be wrong, wont be the first time LOL

Re: Autumnwatch

They knew the starlings were 2 miles away at Shapwick last week and were not landing at Westhay.

The BBC have been contacting our local Somerset Ornithogical Website which we put up all our bird reports, and we`ve been giving them the location and the approx starling numbers which are more like 40,000 rather than in the millions.

Most people don`t even come down to the levels until December at least to see them, when they are in there 100,000`s of thousands and very often going into the millions.

So they had plenty of info about where to go. Which they filmed in the right place to begin with, then went else where where they had been told to avoid

Regards
Brian
