| | | Will Work For Nuts Did anyone else catch this, on Channel 5 at 7.30pm Friday? I thought it looked like a good way to interest young people in nature - sort of Brainiacs with animals. The presenters were lively and some interesting facts came out of the experiments, eg how fast a bee could race, and how long a goldfish could remember - plus the narrator at the start stressed that no animal was harmed in the making of the prog.
But just at the end I wondered whether the 'squirrel-fishing', which was the challenge to get a grey squirrel so clamped on a peanut you could lift it slightly off the ground, might encourage some dodgy types to take it too far and treat the squirrels like toys.
I'd be interested to hear what others felt. |

| | | Re: Will Work For Nuts I saw this and thought it enlightening, specially for younger viewers.
The Squirrel fishing......hmm, I suppose it could be open to cruelty in a form. But them beggars give a damn good bite, and they are too quick I believe to be taken in by a nut or nutter.
I have to say though since I voted 'Yes' in the squirrel cull, I think there should be an open season on hunting. I for one have never tried squiggle, but am told its rather nice.
I dont mean to offend in any way, its just my opinion
Sorry for going off topic.......if someone wants to bring it back? |

| | | Re: Will Work For Nuts I'm probably being too scrupulous - grey squirrels are tough as old boots, aren't they? It's just that it's a fine line between getting people who normally wouldn't bother to be interested in nature, and presenting animals as playthings. Then again, you can play with animals in a respectful way, can't you? (Lord, I sound like some mad old hippy! )
Anyway, aside from that momentary niggle, I'd recommend the programme. It was fun and interesting family viewing, and a good answer to those children (especially boys) who think nature's soppy. |

| | | Re: Will Work For Nuts Agree, it was an entertaining programme, as long as some people don't start trying harrassing wild animals. Should think with squirrels a risk of getting bitten would put most off and the patience needed. |

| | | Re: Will Work For Nuts What a great programme it was last night. I can see it would appeal to younger viewers. The three presenters are also very enthusiastic but not over the top, take note Mr Oddie. The peregrine and the motor bike chase was a brilliant idea. While the Fox and the cheese was just a classic, what happened next moment.
I'll be watching again.

| | | Re: Will Work For Nuts I've just this second finished watching tonights episode of "Will work for nuts" (the first one I've watched).
BRILLIANT!
I'm sure it will interest younger viewers, but I certainly don't fit into that category, (I wish! ).
Really entertaining - I'll tape the rest! (If my old brain can remember to set the video!)
