I'm pretty sure he's still working on that one, it will be called 'Life in cold blood' or something similar. Another one to look forward to!

ok in that case i look forward to a life in cold blood then.....its also annoying as i have been putting off buying the "Life collection" dvd collection ...which isnt cheap as i just know there will be more needing to be added ....life in cold blood proves that and i guess blue planet and planet earth could be in it too.....

Oh ok...so that blonde Ellie the wildlife/ecologist from the ONE SHOW would be my first choice ! | I didn't know Chris Packham + Simon King were nudists!! |

| | | Re: The Nature of Britain Of the young uns, I do like Simon King. He's very clued up and pleasant on the ear. Chris Packham however is intensely irritating. He clearly knows his stuff, but does come out with a lot of inane drivel. That Steve Leonard is the pits as well!
Sorry, but I just had to get that off my chest!

| | | Re: The Nature of Britain The problem I have with people like Bill Oddie and Alan Titchmarsh is that they are "celebrities" first and "presenters" second (if at all). I'm not sure that it's entirely their fault as I suspect the producers of their programmes have a lot to answer for. They seem to think that everything has to be fun, fluffy and lightweight to appeal to a mass audience and that anything with a bit of depth and serious content won't get watched. And this in spite of the fact that Sir David has consistently scored massive viewing figures without larking around, cracking jokes, dumbing down, anthropomorphising his subjects or, above all, patronising his audience.
I've seen a trailer for the programme now and it definitely looks like the camerawork is everything we've come to expect from the BBC Natural History Unit. Fingers firmly crossed that Alan doesn't spoil it!

| | | Re: The Nature of Britain I quite like Alan Titmarsh - I have his presentation of the British Isles on DVD and found it all very watchable, but there isn't anyone like Sir David - he has the right voice-over that compliments the subject and that's besides his great knowledge of stuff.
I've sort of almost warmed to Chris Packham - he's got better with Natures Calendar - its since hes got older and lost the cockiness.
Can't be doing with Simon King . . . sorry . . . but he's gets right on my wick! Anyone who can stand in front of a camera and talk about 'seagulls' instead of just gulls or herring gulls or lesser black backed gulls, needs a good slap! Ok I admit - I'm very very jealous of what he does for a living - I would give my right arm (and both legs) to do what he gets paid to do - but I'm too old, didn't have a father already in the business . . . yep I'm as sour as you like on that particular subject But I bet he doesn't have my knowledge of the english countryside so I guess I should be grateful for what I do have and put up and shut up

| | | Re: The Nature of Britain Hey, Cazzie and Dan, my local Water Vole group's going to be feautured too! I think it'll be in the regional section at the end, so I'm not sure if anyone outside the Midlands will be able to see it (unless they show it in the follow-on prog on BBC4). But it's still v exciting for us! We were filmed clearing some overhanging branches from a brook to make it better for the voles. |

I still use 'seagull' as a term even now i know better, I'm not really sure why its such an issue - obviously its not a term for use in a scientific journal but its not like no one knows what it means..... If he described a herring gull as a great black backed then I'd have a problem..... I'm envious a bit about what Simon does but I think I'd struggle to maintain my current social life and be away from home as much as he is!
I like Alan Titchmarsh too and I think he will be very good at bringing the whole subject to perhaps a wider audiance. There's a good write up in the county file magazine about the series and indeed Alan, apparently he was offered a seris in Costa Rica but he refused saying he'd only do something on Britain...... |

And I've just noticed that there is a tie-in programme, also running for 8 weeks called The Nature of Britain: A User's Guide. This is shown at 11.00pm every Wednesday on BBC4. The BBC web site says "Chris Packham takes a journey through the history of Britain's passion for wildlife and its conservation."

Coffee-table TV.
Bring back Attenborough!
