| | | Wild Mallorca On BBC2 tonight at 18:30. Could be well worth watching.
I know the birdlife is good on that island so I can bet there is plenty to see in this programme.

| | | Re: Wild Mallorca How annoying! Only just seen your post so I've missed the programme. I'd love to have seen it it as several people have told me how good the wildlife and the walking is on Mallorca.
Oh well, it's bound to be repeated sooner or later! |

Anyone with knowledge and experience of Mallorca or the Balearics in general might want to post info on Wildlife and Environment Forum where people have asked but with no response ....
I've never been there (or Minorca or Formantera), only Ibiza - so it would be interesting to learn which of the islands is best for wildlife ....

| | | Re: Wild Mallorca I began watching where somebody was feeding lizards with what looked like tomatoes! Did anyone who watched it, catch the name of the lizards?
David
EDIT: It may be possible to view it again on the BBC Website. |

| | | Re: Wild Mallorca I missed it this time round unfortunately, but I've seen it before, it's a nice programme. I've visited Mallorca before, although not at a very good time of year so I didn't see much.
David, I think the Balearics have 2 endemic Lizards, although I'm pretty sure the ones in the programme were Lilford's Wall Lizards.

| | | Re: Wild Mallorca further to the above the lizards were lilfords wall lizards (podarcis lilfordii kugliae) i've fed them myself, even had them climb into my pocket looking for more! I think it's the moisture they're after.

ken | Mallorca [Majorca] is a truly wonderful island for both flora and fauna. Get away from the tourist hot spots [the drunks] and you are in for a treat.
I have seen wild tortoise, Hermann´s Tortoise - Testudo hermanni, crossing the road and photographed many varieties of orchids in their natural habitat.
The reserve in the north of the island at S'alburfera must be one of the best locations in Europe. Black-winged stilt and marsh harriers abound. |
