I'm afraid you are incorrect about that actual programme as it's never been on before - possibly you saw something similar.

The programme was only filmed a few months ago in Regent's Park. The reason I know this is because I was there when Bill Oddie was filming it.

I was actually only standing a few feet away from Bill and the camera team when they were doing the bit on the Herons.
In fact if you have a recording of the programme, about 23 minutes into it, Bill does a piece too camera with a long shot of a path behind him - the person in the background with the light jacket bending down over by the fence, was in fact me feeding the squirrels.

I'm fairly certain it has been on before, I watched the first airing. A top ten of the favourite/most loathed birds, presented by Bill Oddie, with ducks as the favourites and pidgeons as the least favourite. There would have to be some major coincidence going on there!

And as I recall, the magpies once again got a bad rap! They are adorable birds with wonderful character. I remember waking one morning recently to a ten way magpie skirmish; a fantastic (if noisy) spectacle.

Also, I think it a shame the humble blackbird was not a favourite, I guess you can't please everyone!

My apologies guys *you* are correct.

I did a bit of Googling and it appears that it was first broadcast on 11th June on BBC 4. My Tv mag didn't list it as a repeat so I was going by that.

All I can say is that they must have edited the programme together very quickly, as it was late May when they did the filming and it was on air by the 11th of June - most of the bird sequences looked like stock footage anyway, so that probably explains the quick on air date.

My apologies again for the wrong info.

On the programme Bill says "THE WREN" is the smallest bird in Britain. But I thought it was the goldcrest. Which is the smallest bird in Britain? ? ?

Re: Bill Oddies Top Ten Birds

I watched last night (I love the BBC iplayer - I always forget stuff is on) and I really enjoyed it. Thought the top 10 was pretty good, ducks should be no1 as people who arnt a fan of birds still like ducks. Bute with all the bird species in britain there was always gona be some favourites missed out

I thought that too. A quick look through my RSPB book shows the goldcrest 8.5-9cm and only 5-7g and the wren 9-10cmlong and 8-13g. Maybe he meant smallext garden bird?

Quackers,

Don't worry about it, not your fault at all. I also saw it in a TV Guide where it was not marked as a repeat, but I knew I'd seen it before.
