| | | The Thames: Wildlife Superhighway .... but only for those of us living in the ITV London region
Miranda Krestovnikoff (you may remember her from "Coast") has just finished filming a new 6 x 30 minutes series called "The Thames: Wildlife Superhighway".
She will be taking a journey along the River Thames from its source in a meadow in Gloucestershire to Southend on Sea in Essex on a mission to uncover the secret world of plants, insects, fish, wildlife and birds, living in, on and around the riverbanks.
Each episode focuses on one section of the Thames where she will be discovering the range and diversity of Thames wildlife and exploring what kind of projects are underway to monitor and protect it.
Reminder .... programme 1 goes out at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday September 6th.
For those WABers in Essex, Kent, London and west of London along the River Thames .... enjoy!

| | | Re: New wildlife TV series .... Thanks for the heads-up Richard. I'll definitely give it a watch. I'm currently doing most of my wildlife watching and photography at the Crossness Nature Reserve which is on the Thames in Bexley. Was down there with my son this morning and walked some of the Thames path. We saw various gulls - lesser black-backed, black-headed (already in winter plumage) and common - quite a few ducks - mainly mallard - cormorant, lapwing, grey heron and a grey wagtail.

Dave P. | Dave .... did you get to see the long-staying Grey Phalarope at Crossness NR in February-April this year? .... I never got around to crossing the bridge to see it!

Richard | Sadly no. Nor the Squacco Heron that was there in June. I don't seem to have much luck, I'm afraid.
Take this morning - the Dartford ringing group were there again today (I think they are there most Sundays) and they'd had a kingfisher in the nets before I arrived. That's another bird that I've never seen (apart from a 1/10th of a second flash of blue and orange which doesn't really count) and I missed it again! Ho hum. There were compensations like this juvenile blackcap...
Or even this migrant hawker which also got caught in the bird nets...
They let him go without a ring!

| | | Re: New wildlife TV series .... I thought it was a little disappointing, 50 miles in 30 minutes isn't really long enough, so much was missed out. Saying that, what was shown was interesting and I'll watch it again next week. Wont give to much away so as not to spoil it for those that have recorded it. Otters were lovely though
