This forum, and the world in general, seems to be split between those who love Bill Oddie and those who can't stand him. I'm afraid I'm in the second camp and so never watch it. I'm told the filming is wonderful so next spring (or this autumn if they do an Autumn Watch series) I shall give it a try with the sound turned off.

| | | Re: Who Misses Spring Watch! i don't hate the man - but i do find him abit grating sometimes - I miss it because i could go on the internet at work and watch the webcams of the baby birds, - i work as a receptionist in a hotel and all the guests loved it. I had the sound turned on for the swallows when people checked in, was lovely! I could also come in from work late at night and see live owl footage - I loved that (my partner wasnj't that impressed has to be said!). Bill Oddie was definately not an option to turn on for!

| | | Re: Who Misses Spring Watch! I wish there was Summer and Winter Watch as well, although, I am at least getting some sleep now, the night time programme had me hooked and I was in severe sleep deprivation for a while there
Nature's Calendar helps me get my daily 'fix' though, although I do find some of those presenters irritating.........but let's not go there.

| | | Re: Who Misses Spring Watch! HMMMM there seems to be a running theme here - perhaps just get rid of the annoying presenters and just have the informative and sometime funny antic of the wildlife! All I have to watch at the moment is animal park on a day time - dear oh dear

I quite like Chris Packham but have occassionally found Mike Dilger slightly irritating. Very mild compared to Bill though.
I missed the first one in the current series (the one that included Minsmere) but have seen the rest. The good old Beeb are trying to make me miss the last two by switching them to 1.30pm this coming Monday and Tuesday and not bothering to mention this at the end of the last episode. Typical!

| | Re: Who Misses Spring Watch! I really enjoyed it too, though I never manage to watch all the progs. I don't mind the presenters at all, I think it's best to accept that TV thrives on celebrity and at least someone famous is representing UK wildlife. Maybe we would prefer real experts, but they don't grab the wider population in the same way an enthusiastic amateur does. For me it's the artifice thats harder to swallow, ie sitting in some nice looking country kitchen when you know it's probably a studio or just bumping into wildlife at times. But they are clearly quite honest about this and I thought the final programmes when they showed all the equipment, cabling and people who make the programme work was fascinating.
Anyway, if you really do want a Summer and Winter watch, why not dress appropriately, grab the binoculars and a camera, and make your own
Joe

| | | Re: Who Misses Spring Watch! Ah nightwatch, memories of staying up later than the programme finished because my mind was busy thinking about the next time i would go for one of my Badger watching trips. Dont think my previous boss thought much of it at the time. There was at least four of us going to work in the mornings almost still asleep.
I dont think Mr Oddie is that bad on springwatch, At least he explains things so that any of us can understand. But what is the point of his lady co-presenter. Really someone needs to tell her that joe public would rather watch more of the mammals than hear about her non - mammal opinions.
On the subject of Spring watch, Would that not be the greatest job as the camera man (sorry person), Being paid to spend your days watching mammals.
ah what i dream off - sad really (LOL) | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
