Re: Natures Calendar

Really enjoyed natures calendar last Night. I can now see why people Like Minsmere
It Looks a great place. Another Must Visit to add to my List. I also enjoyed the Moths and Butterfly slot, and the Spider One..
If this episode was anything to go by the rest of the series is going to be Great.

Re: Natures Calendar

What a great programme! Seeing some really interesting locations for wildlife spotting that I would probably not have thought of and Chris Packham is really watchable as the host. Still remember him from his early days on our screens with the blond spiky hair, etc I've read a couple of excellent nature photography books that he wrote too. Looking forward to more tonight...

Re: Natures Calendar

Like GME, I missed Monday's but have set up a repeat recording for the rest.

I like Chris Packham as a presenter. His "I'd go out with a black guillemot" speech was priceless!

I shall copy them to DVDs and keep them with the book.

Re: Natures Calendar

I think this is an excellent series, as was the previous one.

You could argue that 10 minutes per site is just enough for only a taster but then you can always research further via the Natures Calendar website and the Natures Calendar book .... or indeed by asking WAB members for further information and their views.

I have missed some programmes due to working late but they are safely recorded on video for me to watch later.

Richard

I agree completely with your comments about Chris Packham - he's a very likeable presenter, with an infectious enthusiasm for nature, and the "I'd go out with a black guillemot" line was a classic.

I really like Nature's Calendar, but didn't notice it was on again until near the end of the week so I missed the Minsmere episode. I would really like to have seen that, as until a couple of years ago I lived near Ipswich (I was there for about 10 years) and used to visit Minsmere at least half a dozen times a year. Great site for birds, simply because of the wide variety of habitats there. Still, I'm sure the series will be repeated soon, probably on one of the Beeb's digital chanels. In any case, I've still got a recording of when Bill Oddie went to Minsmere - I liked his comment that it was a bit like a supermarket for birders.

On another note, I saw on a different thread that the number of members on this site has risen from about 1,000 to about 10,000 in the last 18 months or so. I'm sure programs like Nature's Calendar and Springwatch have encouraged a lot more people to get out exploring nature, and some of them will consequently have found this site.
