| | | Re: Tree and shrub for i.d. I agree with Hedera, 1. is a species of Viburnum, almost certainly planted judging by the trees nearby.
2. is a Lime, the red 'growths' protruding from the leaves are Lime Nail Galls caused by the Gall Mite Eriophyes tiliae.

I hesitate to argue with Dorts whose knowledge is extraordinary, but on careful looking at the picture the red bits seem to be coming from the stem not the leaves - and it still seems mighty early to have such large nail galls on what look like your leaves. |

| | | Re: Tree and shrub for i.d. Hobjob, you are spot on. (I am far from infallible).
They are of course those small red 'bracts' that protect the buds. Yes, probably a bit early for Lime Nail Gall, but how similar at a glance.
Thanks.

Dorts. | How weird is that? The 'bracts' looking so similar to the lime nail gall. I even checked it on the web after your i.d. and didn't notice the difference.
Thank you and Hobjob for your help. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
