| | | Cherry tree Hi,I planted into pots a baby apple tree and a baby cherry tree in november last year.My apple tree has spread its branches and is now sprouting leaves but the cherry tree has not changed at all.My neighbours have cherry trees. One in a pot is blossoming and another in the ground has started to bud.
Can anyone tell me if my cherry is dead and a dud?
Thanx |

Thanx | Hi Steve, welcome to Wab.
There is one easy way to tell if a tree is dead or dying, and that is to remove the bark from a twig using your finger-nail or a small knife. What you find just beneath the bark, (the cambium layer) should be a good mid to light green and moist.
The twigs should be 'plump and firm' not 'wrinkled'and the bark should not come away easily.
Also there should by now be some evidence of green in the buds.
Anything other than I have described would mean you plant is probably dead. Take it back for a replacement.
