Hawthorn in flower in September

Yesterday while visiting Rodley Nature Reserve in Leeds, I saw this hawthorn with both berries and flowers. It was in a hedge and appeared to be the only one with blossom and fruit. Does anyone know how common this phenomenon is?

Although not uncommon, you don't see it every year with Hawthorn.
A number of trees, shrubs and herbaceuos plants have a 'secondary-flowering' , though it is unlikely at this late time these Hawthorn flowers will produce any berries.
