| | | eucalyptus dalrympleana advice please - new to this particular forum and grateful for any do's/dont's - situation is as follows: have a 17m eucalyptus mountain white gum tree within a neighbours garden 5-6m away from our 20yr old house (no signs of foundation issues) just beyond our shared brick boundary wall. its crown is c.2m over our roof. we are in a conservation area. after lenghty conversations (very gentle we think) our neighbours dont want us to touch it at all. therefore we applied to the council to prune all branches over our boundary. they have put a TPO (temp until perm) which even our tree surgeon cant believe. i have asked our tree surgeon to submit our objection on grounds of proximity, root and branch issues, etc. a couple of the lower branches are almost constantly touching our property. any views folks?! |

| | | Re: eucalyptus dalrympleana Although it may seem rather annoying of the local Council to place a TPO on this tree, it may be they are waiting for expert opinion. (I spent many years doing just that). But without seeing the position of this tree in relation to all surrounding properties it would be difficult to give 'expert' advice.
However, this fast growing Mountain Gum Eucalyptus will rapidly grow to form a large evergreen tree, doing particularly well on dry sandy soils, though it will struggle with shade, wet clay soils or in a very cold exposed position.
It can grow to 50m. -165 ft.!! It is therefore only suitable for a large gardens or small garden if regularly coppiced.
So if the conditions are right for it, it could become a problem in the not too distant future.
Dorts.
(oh, and welcome to WAB by the way.)

| | | Re: eucalyptus dalrympleana thanks CM. i can see where this is headed, i think. i am fearful of mentioning this to my insurers as i may render my house uninsurable. similarly i wonder whether my neighbours insurers are aware of this tree. i am due to meet the planners soon as i wish to build a side utility (raft construction so i dont affect the roots). if you provide an email address i can email you a couple of pics. |

My view is that this is not an appropriate subject for detailed duscussion on this forum and the increasing number of very similar threads is looking like evidence of intentional misuse of the WAB site. The Garden Law website is in any event far better suited to this subject and I'd direct those concerned to make use of the facilities there.
