Almond non fruiting

I have an almond tree which is over 3 years old which has not flowered at all. It's in a fairly shaded area.

Does anybody have any ideas or advice?

Your tree could be too shaded and may require more light, it also may need more nutrients depending on your soil and may not be mature enough to flower as it's still a young tree! Almonds take at least 3 years to mature given the best situ and nutrients, so don't be too disheartened as yet as it may just well come to flourish this year! If you could shed more light then hopefully we may be able to give better advice!

Jez is right most trees take a while to settle in before they begin fruiting.

However, with Almond you have another potentially bigger problem: I think like Holly they are dioecious, i.e. separate sexes, so if you have a male plant it will never fruit!
