| | | What tree have I got & is it diseased? Hi,
I have just moved house to somewhere with a lovely big tree in the garden. Previously living in flats, I've never had a garden before & am a complete novice (I have asked for gardening for dummies for Christmas!). Could somebody please tell me what type of tree this is, how to care for it, etc. I am also concerned as there is some light green mould on one side of the tree trunk & would like to know if this needs attention.
I'm not sure images will work, but links seem to be: My Tree - Wild About Britain Pics My Tree - Wild About Britain Pics My Tree - Wild About Britain Pics My Tree - Wild About Britain Pics
Many thanks in advance,
Phil. |

| | | Re: What tree have I got & is it diseased? Probably a form of Lawson's Cypress or closely related species- it looks pretty healthy to me. Popular with some birds for nesting + roosting in, including Collared Dove, Goldcrest, Coal Tit, Goldfinch + Greenfinch.
There are also several moth larvae which use this tree such as Cypress Carpet, Blair's Shoulderknot + a few others. Juniper Shieldbugs will also utilise this species. |

After Googling it, I agree with you that it does look like a Lawson's Cypress. The branches & leaves are healthy & it appears to be popular with the birds. As for the "green mould" running down the base, should I just leave this, as it's rotting through the bark & into the wood? |

| | | Re: What tree have I got & is it diseased? I've had it confirmed today that it's a leylandii conifer & the mould is harmless. Thanks all for your help with this one. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
