It looks pretty colourful, so i took a few shots and close-ups. But no idea about why and what is going on that small plants (mm in size) grow on the skin of trees. Please explain.

They are Lichens oxford patient  there is a lichen sub-forum ,maybe somebody can I.d them there I hope |
