Tree superstitions
I heard the tail end of a conversation on Radio Cambridgeshire yesterday that suggested you should apologise to an Elder tree before you cut it. I found the following on the web - a little rhyme that you're supposed to say:

Old girl, give me some of thy wood
I will give thee some of mine when I grow into a tree.

The 'old girl' is the Lady of the Elder, apparently. Anyone know any more about this?
