| | | How old is this Oak? I have a friend who has a lovely old oak on his land, we measured it at 1.5 meatres and it was 7 m girth, I have added it to the Ancient tree site with pictures...... The Woodland Trust | Recording | Tree details
I am new to the WAB site and don't know how to put pics on here?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated |

| | | Re: How old is this Oak? Hi Type2Tatoo, Welcome to WAB. We are members of the Woodland Trust as well & enjoy woodland so much With regards to uploading photos have a look in the top right corner for the help button & take it from there. I usually crop mine if it`s needed then reduce it to 1024 X 768 which is my predefined large thumbnail on Microsoft Office picture manager. If it`s just an image for the forums upload it to the Image Gallery & it will be available immediately Gallery photos have to be checked first.
Hope this helps. Look forward to seeing your photos

| | | Re: How old is this Oak? If you measure the tree's girth in INCHES at 1.5 m up from the ground you can get a rough idea of how old the tree is. If the tree is growing in an open area then 1 inch = 1 year. If it is growing in a closed woodland then 0.5 inch = 1 year due to slower growth rate. At a guess a 7m girth oak tree would be somewhere in the region of 500 years old.
As I said this is only a rough guide (and assuming it is a maiden tree)

I will go and measure it properly at the weekend, there are pics on the Ancient tree site. There is a small problem one big limb and a fair bit of trunk has come off (in a storm alledgedly) so it will be a guesstimate of how big it really is, its very healthy otherwise though |
