shrub / tree id please

Found this in a hedgerow , can anybody id . i think its a common one but not to me . thanks for any replies .

I'm not too sure but the leaves are reminiscent of Cotoneaster rehderi but I'm not sure on the flowers. I have C. rehderi in my garden but the flowers have gone over really quickly. I've not even seen them this year. The berries are starting now

thanks for your reply keenteen , after i posted i thought it may have even been a flower but there were 5 or 6 flower heads protruding through the hedge foilage so am not even sure the leaves in view go with the flower heads .

Not a Cotoneaster at all; it's Dogwood, Cornus sanguinea.

aeshna's right, I'd say Dogwood as well.
