| | | Re: tree ID The characteristic fruits give the game away here, but if they weren't present, you would look closely at the margin of the leaf. I always think that the leaf of the Hornbeam is similar to that of the Beech, but those of the Beech have a smoother edge (more specifically "crenate" and "undulate"). Those of the Hornbeam are toothed. More specifically, they are "double-serrate" or "2-serrate", each larger tooth having smaller teeth. HTH
