If you find one in flower, an easy way to tell between franchetii & sternianus is to take a look at the anthers; they're white in Stern's, and a pale purplish colour in Franchet's

I knew I had seen C. franchetti and I recognised it in this photo  Its because of your thread that I'm noticing all these Cotoneasters |

| | | Re: Cotoneaster id please Thanks to both of you for the id. The Cotoneaster did have purplish anthers. The trouble was that all the open flowers had brown anthers so I had to carefully open a flower that was in bud to see the colour.
