| | | What is this tree called? This tree grows in the Meadows of Edinburgh. I tried identifying it myself but can't be certain.
It is approximately 70 feet high, and the leaf pictured here is two inches in length. |

A study of the bark might help, and any fruits that appear.

| | | Re: What is this tree called? Could also be Birch, which the tree shape reminds me of but I would agree with HW and go for Elm.
Oh! and a warm welcome to WAB too

| | | Re: What is this tree called? Thank you for the input, guys. I'll get pictures of the bark and flowers tomorrow to narrow it down. Elm seems to be the answer but I still can't be sure! |

| | | Re: What is this tree called? Look at the base of the leaf where it joins the stalk. One side is much longer than the other and this is a characteristic of the elm leaf. There are lots of different elms and they are difficult to identify. |

| | | Re: What is this tree called? Thank you for the help everyone! Now that we've established it's an elm tree, here are the pictures of the flowers and bark:
There are tags nailed to the tree. A metallic round one says "2132," and a rectangular green one says "00435 EDC" (Edinburgh District Council). Only a fraction remains of a third, blue tag, but judging by the surrounding trees' blue tags it said "07515." I don't know if these are any use, but I'm trying to provide exhaustive information! |

Be interested to hear what they have to say though
