| | | Leaves for I.D Hi,
The following leaves are from a local woodland which I often walk through. I often wonder what species the trees are so would be grateful if anyone could enlighten me! Leaves for Identification - Wild About Britain Pics
The leaf in image one seems to make up most of the trees in the woodland.
Image 3 Oak? These trees look quite old but are short, not how I imagine an oak tree.
The leaf in image 6 comes from a very boggy area next to a lake so I assume the trees are willow. Leaves for Identification - Wild About Britain Pics |

| | | Re: Leaves for I.D Agree with these:
1. Sycamore
2. Don't know. more info required.
3. Oak. Petiole (stalk) looks relatively long, so bit hard to say which one.
4. Lime (most likely Common)
5. Beech. Looks like a weevil has mined this one. I can just make out a little brown line on the RHS of the leaf starting near the midrib and going to the edge.
6. Willow, relatively long-leaved, so most likely Crack. |

| | | Re: Leaves for I.D I'd suggest Hazel as a possibility for 7. I think its too broad and lobed for Hornbeam. |

4 Lime - probably Large-leaved
5 Beech
6 Crack Willow
7 Elm-probably English

From your answers the larger of my two local woods seems to be mostly made up of Sycamore (am I right in thinking these don't support very much wildlife compared to other trees), there are also a good number of Hazel, with the odd other species here and there.
The smaller of the woods seems to have three distinct parts, one end seems to have a majority of big old hazels, younger sycamore centre, and oaks at the other (this seems to be the oldest part of the wood and definitely holds alot more wildlife.
I have one more image of unidentified leaves. This this from a young woodland that a farmer planted about 10-15 years ago in one of his fields. 9,10 and 11 all looked more like garden trees to me, I've never seen them in the wild before. Could anyone enligthen me? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
