| | | Re: Tree ID Thats quite a mature cotoneaster species. The dark green leaves and pale under layers to the leaf are a dead giveaway.
Did you say they are popular with birds? The one in my garden hasn't been touched this morning but one up the road is frequently decimated by waxwing hoardes. I didn't see them though |

I didn't see them though | Yeah they are, especially after the first frost then they seem to be eaten within a couple of weeks. We once had waxings years ago, I was only little so can't remember which year. Any ideas which species? |

| | | Re: Tree ID I think the only way to identify them is to look at the insides of the flowers I think. I posted a cotoneaster for IDs and was told to wait until spring/summer to get a definitive ID. |

| | | Re: Tree ID I know this will sound like a really stupid question but when you say look inside the flower, do you mean simply looking inside the flower or do you have to do something with a microscope? |

| | | Re: Tree ID From the looks of it, the one in this picture's actually Hollyberry Cotoneaster, Cotoneaster bullatus. It's fairly similar to C. rehderi, but the leaves of bullatus are noticeably more "wrinkled" (for want of a better word... ) |
